According to ESPN the Irish defense surrendered 388 total yards (but only 128 in the second-half comeback) to a high-powered offense (MSU’s 476.75 ypg ranks fifth nationally) in weather conditions that weren’t exactly made for running up and down the field. ND now ranks 80th in the nation in total defense (342.50 ypg), but three of its four opponents are average offensive units (44. Penn State, 51. Michigan, 53. Georgia Tech).
