The NY Mets Have 45 possible Unique Uniform Options

June 22, 2007

It should not be a surprise that the New York Mets needed almost a decade to find their footing in the National League, it is also not a suprise that they still can not get their footing in the Nation League. With that in mind it is clear that the franchise can not even decide on a uniform color/combination.

Let’s start with the hats. The Mets have a home, road, and alternate hat. This is rather typical, no complaint here.

The Mets go fashion-ista on us when it comes to the jerseys. They have home (“Mets” pinstripe), alternate home (“Mets” black), another alternate home (“Mets” white), road (“New York” gray), and alternate road (“New York” black). This means the Mets also have pinstripe, white, and gray pants.

With my simple math background, it means the Mets have 45 possible unique uniform options. (3 hats x 5 jerseys x 3 pants = 45) This is overstated, as a player will not wear gray pants with a white jersey. After further calculations, I have determined the Mets players actually have 27 legitimate unique uniform combinations. WTF? Your basic team, with 2 hats, 3 uniforms, and 2 pants can derive 8 legitimate uniform combinations.

Are these arguments to hate the Mets pretty weak? Yes, I think so. But you must realize…they are the Mets. You don’t really need any reason to hate them…or the Chicago White Sox.

They need to start looking up to the Yankees..
