What Really Happened To Stuart Scott’s Eye?

Some say it is a bad case of lazy eye. “I don’t know the clinical term for it, but he’s got what is commonly referred to as a “lazy eye.” It’s not as uncommon as it seems. I’ve worked with a few people who have it both worse and not as bad as Stuart Scott. ”

Others say it was penalty flag through the face mask.

They are all wrong. Stuart Scott was asked what happened during an interview.

Q. Back in the spring, you sustained a severe eye injury while filming a story about football minicamps with the Jets. Tell us what happened.

I had gotten in shape and (Jets coach) Herman Edwards gave me permission to go to minicamp with them. I was doing a feature for ESPN on what it’s like to be in minicamp. But I was serious about it.

The day I was there, there were eight wideouts and the wide receiver coach said I was rated number six. I didn’t have any delusions of grandeur. I was hoping I’d be good enough to be a scrub wide receiver or a practice wide receiver in the NFL. I found that out that day. I didn’t disappoint myself and I didn’t embarrass myself.

At end of practice all the wideouts went to the Jugs Machine, it’s a machine that shoots balls out. I had never done that before. I had been catching everything that day in practice from the quarterbacks. I was probably a little close and the thing was fast and the thing was faster than I thought it was.

Q. The ball, coming out of the machine, hit you square in the left eye. How bad was it?

It was serious. I had emergency surgery that night and was out of work for a couple months. It was tough. I had some eye surgery before so I knew how severe it was. It was probably more scary that day, not knowing. The next day came and I knew it would be a long recovery back. I still need some more surgery. The eye is not great now. But I had some time off.

Can you say D*MB@SS? You are a damn announcer and you thought you could wake up one day and be in the NFL? Talk about STUPID!?! Stop smoking weed and going to be with dreams of granduer. Your eye should serve asa reminder that you are JUST a reporter! You are a good one, but just a reporter.

Your story should serve as a remider for all others to be who they are, not who they think they are. If you wake up one day and believe you’re a gangster because you watched a good movie, then you get shot… ANOTHER GOOD REMINDER! Don’t be a D*MB@SS! Use what God gave you for YOUR LIFE, not someone elses. We all have gifts, recognize yours and use them to the fullest of your capabilities!

In response to Captain Laff-A-Lot. “this should serve as a reminder blah blah” you’re obviously a piece of sh-t and don’t appreciate an excellent idea. That being said, you are also OBVIOUSLY ignorant!! I feel that the story Scott was working on would’ve given the public great insight as to what a mini-camp entails and I think that most people would agree with my opinion. Seriously, who makes a statement like that? You are ridiculous and it’s apparent to me that you were beaten as a child and do not have an athletic bone in your body. “Don’t be a dumba$s”? If Scott would’ve finished that story, it would’ve been watched by millions. Therefore, I do not believe you can classify him as a dumba$s, more like a sportscaster using his “God-given” gifts to attract the attention of millions of others in order to inform them of what really goes on at a mini-camp. Get a life you piece of sh-t and stop looking for reasons to bash on others!!!!!!

I was wondering what happened to Stuart’s eye. Thanks for sharing. Stuart Scott is awesome in his trade. I admire him for following his heart in chasing the dream of playing and reporting Sport stories. Although not funny at the time of incident…..I bet your frat brothers and friends are hazing you now. Peace!

captain laff a lot…you strike me as a person with very few friends. and too much smoking weed? fuck that. weed is gods gift to earth. you are a tool.

bayowulf at 00:14 on 1 November 2008

captain laffalot doesn’t suck…he swallows! hahaha What a moron. You are clearly one of life’s overachieving underachievers. You sit around all day and wonder what could’ve been had you only made an effort. Mad at the world because most of the world is willing to take a chance to get the things they want.

Stay in your recliner you armchair quarterback…actually, I take that back because even that would require some kind of intelligent insight and comprehension you super-dork.

Also, I’m sure that Stuart truly respects your opinion of him being a “good” reporter. Just another notch on his list of achievements that he’ll cherish forever… I’m sure of it.

Interesting story, but everyone knows Scott’s eye was jacked long before Herm Edwards coached the Jets. Dude always looked like that since Day One on ESPN and he started in the mid-90s while Edwards was coach of the Jets starting in 2001.
