USC football’s home stadium not up for sale

The state Senate rejected legislation Thursday that would require the state to sell the site of the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and adjoining Los Angeles Sports Arena. The bill’s author, Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Merced, said the stadium is “falling apart” and that selling the land would generate as much as $400 million to help ease the state’s budget crunch. Put the little man and his fiddle away. You saw this coming. Why pick on a University that stimulates your economy in revenue and education. REJECTED!

The future plans for the stadium include new seats, upgrade the video and scoreboard on the peristyle end and add a video-scoreboard on the other end of the stadium. To help pay for the improvements, the university will try to lure a “naming” sponsor for the facility and it has been specified that USC will pay rent which includes 8 percent of gross ticket sales for home games, half of game-day expenses, and 8 percent of revenue from live television broadcasts when the crowd is below 70,000.
