A Virginia Tech Tribute -1 Year Ago
Today marks the one year anniversary of the tragic events that led up to the deadliest shooting spree in U.S. History. On April 16, 2007 the nation was brought to its knees by what we all now know to be as the Virginia Tech Massacre. 32 innocent people consisting of students and faculty tragically lost their lives as a gunman invaded the campus.
Fumbled.org asks you to remember those who lost their lives or had their lives changed forever. Numerous remembrance ceremonies will be conducted throughout the day to honor the fallen students and faculty that courageously took their last breath on that dark and dreary day.
Cnn.com has posted a tribute of victims which can be seen here. Cnn Tribute Take the time to click through an amazing salute and tribute.
I would like to extend my condolences to all of the friends and family members of the victims. As human beings we learn from and forgive the mistakes of others and move forward through the journey of life. Virginia Tech has chosen to move forward and most would say they have come along way within the last year. Many students had left the campus to continue their academic careers while other chose to stay. The Virginia Tech football team had a great season considering the recent situation. Golf team captain, and a junior at VT, Drew Weaver has made school history and will compete with Tiger Woods in this years “Masters”. Not a bad way to lift spirits.
The moral here is; no matter what there is hope, always live your life to the fullest day-by-day, appreciate your peers, friends, family and employees and most importantly let them all know you appreciate them.
I will end with a quote from “Alex Hitchens” (Hitch)…
Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away….
NCAA Coaches To Run Flag Football Games In Middle East
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — With a daughter serving in the military, Randy Shannon particularly understands the importance of supporting American troops.
He’ll fly a long way this spring to make that point.
Shannon is among five college football coaches who’ll head to Kuwait and other military bases in the Middle East this May to meet with U.S. troops and participate in some clinics. He’ll be joined by Notre Dame’s Charlie Weis, Georgia’s Mark Richt, Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville and Yale’s Jack Siedlecki.
The trip is scheduled from May 20-26.
“I’m thrilled to do it,” Shannon told The Associated Press Wednesday. “I mean, you get to go over and support the people over there in the military. And most of the coaches kind of know each other: Mark Richt attended the University of Miami, Tommy Tuberville coached with me, Charlie Weis I know from the NFL. Everybody’s excited about it and we’re going over to support the people that support us.”
Ok, so our troops need entertainment. Not a bad idea. Send them a few College football coaches and incorporate them in a few games of harmless football ran by the best. What I don’t understand is; why would you send Charlie Weis? With the way his 2007 season turned out he will most likely be picked last for teams. Demoralizing!
However, you can’t pick on him too much, he is doing a great thing by donating his time for a great cause. Stay safe coaches!
Darren McFadden Used As Under Age Marketing Campaign
According to the Associated press, a ”back-street” whimpy piano bar that admitted Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden (even though he was under age) will face a $500 fine.
Employees of Ernie Biggs (Official Website Seen Here) told investigators they let the 20-year-old running back inside Jan. 10 knowing he was a minor, said Michael Langley, director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control agency on Tuesday.
Can you blame them? They now can say this is the bar Darren McFadden was briefly arrested at. Sounds to me like they should have had the help of a professional advertising agency.
Anyways, McFadden and at least four others were at the bar when a fight broke out.
A video of the Ernie Biggs bar scene that McFadden attended can be seen below….You should try to find him. As for now, it looks like he will be in the clear and not be charged for under age drinking. After all, there is no law that states you can not be in a bar under age.
And come on man, if you are going to risk your NFL career, altleast pick a better bar!
Terrelle Pryor Spotted At OSU Basketball Game
Could this be bad news for Penn State? Top ranked QB Terrelle Pryor was spotted sitting in the crowd at an Ohio State basketball game on Saturday. He told reporters that a visit to State College would follow the immediate conclusion of his high-school basketball playoff run. As of now, according to the associated press, Pryor has not yet scheduled with the Nittany Lions. Is he ditching a meeting with PSU?
As Pryor got out of his seat at halftime, Ohio State’s student section chanted, “We want Pryor” and “Terr-elle Pry-or”. Sources say he was walking to a near-by room to meet with Buckeye football coach Jim Tressell.
Did the student section just provide a kick to Pryor’s decision? It is damn possible. Will a decision be announced in the next few days, maybe hours?
Horse Collar Tackle Still Legal In NCAA Football
Horse-collar tackles may be no more in NCAA Football. The NCAA football committee plans on focusing their attention towards “heavy contact plays” and attempting to discourage such actions. If the passed, the proposed horse-collar tackle rule would be similar to the NFL’s, penalizing a tackle in which a ball carrier is pulled down from the inside collar of the shoulder pads or jersey around the neck area.
A flag thrown for the dangerous tackle could cost your team 15 yards and the NFL cashes in on a huge fine. Ask Roy Williams! Williams, of the Dallas Cowboys, was suspended for one game and fined 35,000 big ones for the horse collar tackle against Donovan McNabb this past season.
There is no time frame given on when the new rule will be approved or implemented. College football is also talking about setting a more strict policy in the future on face mask penalties and helmet to helmet contact. The recent events concerning Buffalo Bills player, Kevin Everett, may have opened a few eyes and concerns dealing with the saftey of our players, and especially, our student athletes.
Speculation to why this rule has not been even discussed has turned some heads. How did the NCAA let this one slip under the shoulder pads?
Five Reasons Why Terrelle Pryor Should Pick Penn State
1. The Nittany Lions return 20 starters; 9 offense, 9 defense, and 2 special teams players. Pryor can learn from their experience on and off the field, from those who do not get suspended of course.
2.Jeannette high school is exactly 120 miles away from State College. Being that Terrelle was born in Pennsylvania he should look to continue his career in Pennsylvania. There is no finer institution of high learning like PSU.
3. Who will be the Lion’s quarterback if Pryor opts to attend school somewhere else? Daryll Clark. As the back up to Anthony Morelli Clark proved himself as having AJ Feeley like qualities. He came off the bench and gave PSU the spark they needed to be victorious in the Alamo Bowl just like AJ Feeley helped the Eagles almost beat the Patriots. The collapse is coming!
4. Pryor is on the road this week visiting Oregon State. This means if Pryor choses Oregon he becomes a Duck. Would you rather be part of a team that is called the Ducks, or the Nittany Lions?
5. With the depth PSU has already developed for the upcoming 3 seasons or so…adding Terrelle Pryor to the roster will make the Lions a contender in the BCS. PSU needs a spark desperatley and Terrelle is the answer without a doubt…
The Best NCAA Bowl Game Teams: By Winning Percentage
Who has had the best luck in NCAA history when it comes to playing and winning bowl games?  Did PSU come to mind? Obviously, Southern Cal has won the most games, but does that make their success better than the accomplishments of the Nittany Lions who have had 4 fewer appearances?
If we look down the road 10 years from now, will it be possible to have a team like Alabama or Georgia overcome Penn State for the all-time winning percentage honors? It is a only a matter of time (10 years of course).

High School Football Player Fakes His Own Recruitment
According to ESPN, a week ago, Kevin Hart sat in front of television cameras and a packed high school auditorium of his alma mater, placing two baseball caps on a table — a Cal Bears cap on his right, an Oregon Ducks cap on his left — and then, after a dramatic pause, put the blue-and-gold Cal hat on his head. The perfect ceremony to acknowledge accomplishments of any signee into a Division I school. Kevin Hart could have not asked for more.
The gymnasium erupted with cheers and pride as Hart stood proud of his achievements. Support grew throughout the week. Complements of congradulatory means were issued to Kevin Hart, his family and coaches.
Unfortunately, Hart left one minor detail out of the mix. The Cal head coach never even heard of Kevin Hart. There was never a scholarship offer let alone an offer on the table at all. “We knew of the kid,” said a sympathetic Chris Ault, head coach at Nevada. “He was in our camp, but he’s not a scholarship athlete.”And yet, about 10 days ago, a Nevada assistant coach told Ault, “Coach, you won’t believe this, but the Hart kid is going to go to Oregon.”"What?” said Ault.”Oregon’s offering him a scholarship,” said the assistant.A few days later, after spending time with nine players making their official weekend recruiting visits to Nevada, Ault came home, ate dinner and then saw some jaw-dropping footage on the local news. There was the non-prospect Hart placing a Cal cap on his head.
Ault couldn’t believe it. He started calling his assistant coaches, all the time consumed by a single, paranoid thought: Holy god, the guy’s a half hour from our campus and we didn’t even recruit him! What’s this going to look like?”
That right folks! He made each and every detail up! The whole thing was a FAKE!!
What was he thinking? He had to realize at some point that someone would find out about this frantic lie. Is it possible that maybe he convinced himself to believe his own lie?He “snowballed” his parents, friends, and family. Infact, the parents claim an envelope from Cal or Oregon never even came to the house.
Let’s get serious here. This is an act that is supposed to be committed by a high school student lying about making the varsity team, not a “so called” Division I college athlete. For his valiant efforts in trying to become the first self proclaimed college football recruit, Fumbled.org is awarding Mr. Hart with the “Jackass” stamp of approval.Good luck to you, and we hope you find the perfect NFL team to fit your needs for the next time you cry wolf.
College Football Will Need Its Own Dog Killer Come September
It is not too early to look into the 2008 season. My god we are almost into February. LSU beating Ohio State for the National Championship is now in the past. What can we expect for next year will fill sports magazines, blogs, and newspapers across the country until the opening kickoff. One thing is for sure, The Georgia Bulldogs are the biggest threat to win the National Title that NCAA history has ever seen. Here is why.
1. Georgia loses no significant talent. USC, LSU and Ohio State do. The Georgia Bulldogs return all but 5 starters from 2007. The Bulldogs only gap comes on defense where a pass-rusher must be found to replace Marcus Howard. Not too much of a worry if you ask me.
2. College Football Recruiting, Recruiting, Recruiting. Georgia has possibly the best recruiting class for 2008. More talent will be brought to the team by players such as WR A.J. Green | Summerville, SC| ,who have already committed to the Bulldogs.  Â
“We’re a hot team right now,’†said recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner. “You have what we have been doing on the field [seven straight wins] and the black jerseys and the things around the program … we’ve been a hot team.â€Â He is not bluffing, the 2008 recruiting line-up they have going on is incredible.
3. With recruiting and returning, experienced players, comes great depth. Heisman candidate (Tail Back) Knowshon Moreno, Caleb King and “ice” Matt Stafford only to name a few will be able, without a doubt, resume the leadership roles like the 2007 season where they lead their team to just falling short by one game of playing Ohio State.
4. Georgia is hungry. Every single player believed (after going 10-2 this season)that they should have played Ohio State in the BCS game. It is in every Bulldogs dish; favoritism and Television networks looking for higher ratings may have played a role in USC being selected. The only way to fix this is to come out next season and rip the pants off of every team they play.
5. The difficult schedule is the only stumbling block left for Georgia. Arizona State posses the first great road threat of the season. Consecutive games against LSU and Florida will definitely not reduce stress. Execution will be key. If Georgia can execute the plays when they are needed, Georgia will be your 2008-2009 National Champions.
Concluding that any other team but the Bulldogs winning next year’s BCS game, would be like saying Larry Coker should be re-hired at Miami. Idiotic!
Boston College Football Program lands first-ever ESPN 150 commit
After their loss to Florida on Saturday night (November 3rd, 2007); The Boston College Football program made history by signing a recruit counted in ESPN’s Top 150 Prospects for the first time ever! Boston College has not had the best luck when it comes to recruiting, but this could be the big break for the program to rebound and become a yearly national title contender. Mike Goodman from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida was the lucky 2008 signee. Good luck to Boston College for the rest of the year, and good luck to their new Top 150 Prospect!
University of Memphis football player killed on campus
Police said defensive lineman Taylor Bradford, 21, apparently was shot around 9:45 p.m. (10:45 ET) Sunday and drove a short distance in his car before crashing. Bradford was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Campus police said the preliminary investigation indicated that Bradford was targeted and not the victim of a random act of violence. An incident from the night before may have caused this act.
The University of Memphis is closed today because of the act of violence.
Parents: Video Game Madden 2008 Causes Real Brain Injuries
Come on, the year is 2007 and you need to just give it up. People are complaining about Madden 2008 being to violent for kids to play. Apparently, when you pull a Reggie Bush and Sheldon Brown type of hit, the words “Big Hit” are displayed on the screen. Apparently, those words are unacceptable to 12 year old children. There is no reason this game should be posted on a brain injury blog. Who comes up with that stuff anyway.
Some express the following: “If the NFL is serious in their concern over concussions, they ought to rethink the image they are creating in the minds of young fans when they allow these video games to be produced under their license. The NFL should learn that the best cure for brain injuries is prevention! ”
I say shut up and be glad you kid is not playing “Tour of Duty”, “Man Hunt 2″, or other horrific video game out on the market. THIS IS JUST FOOTBALL!
Andy Reid Needs A Parenting Class
Andy Reid’s sons are in alot of trouble once again. Britt Reid, son of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, pleaded guilty to gun and drug related charges that could potentially put him in jail for over a year. The best case scenario for Reid would be for the judge to give him probation.
Besides the firearms charge, Reid also pleaded guilty to simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and drug possession. Misdemeanor charges of making terroristic threats, making a false statement to law enforcement and possessing drug paraphernalia were dropped..
Andy’s other son, Garrett, is facing jail time of his own.
A good parent wouldnt let this happen. Did his absence because of the NFL cause these problems?
This all happened in Coach Reid’s main house so he had to have some clue. Isn’t he responsible for what goes on in his house??? But I bet he won’t have to talk to Goodell.
What Really Happened To Stuart Scott’s Eye?
Some say it is a bad case of lazy eye. “I don’t know the clinical term for it, but he’s got what is commonly referred to as a “lazy eye.” It’s not as uncommon as it seems. I’ve worked with a few people who have it both worse and not as bad as Stuart Scott. ”
Others say it was penalty flag through the face mask.
They are all wrong. Stuart Scott was asked what happened during an interview.
Q. Back in the spring, you sustained a severe eye injury while filming a story about football minicamps with the Jets. Tell us what happened.
I had gotten in shape and (Jets coach) Herman Edwards gave me permission to go to minicamp with them. I was doing a feature for ESPN on what it’s like to be in minicamp. But I was serious about it.
The day I was there, there were eight wideouts and the wide receiver coach said I was rated number six. I didn’t have any delusions of grandeur. I was hoping I’d be good enough to be a scrub wide receiver or a practice wide receiver in the NFL. I found that out that day. I didn’t disappoint myself and I didn’t embarrass myself.
At end of practice all the wideouts went to the Jugs Machine, it’s a machine that shoots balls out. I had never done that before. I had been catching everything that day in practice from the quarterbacks. I was probably a little close and the thing was fast and the thing was faster than I thought it was.
Q. The ball, coming out of the machine, hit you square in the left eye. How bad was it?
It was serious. I had emergency surgery that night and was out of work for a couple months. It was tough. I had some eye surgery before so I knew how severe it was. It was probably more scary that day, not knowing. The next day came and I knew it would be a long recovery back. I still need some more surgery. The eye is not great now. But I had some time off.

Michael Vick Is Gambling His Fate With The System
“I’m sorry Mike but it honestly doesnt look like the NFL or the NAACP is going to bail you out if that’s what you are hoping.”
Even though Vick has pleaded guilty, he still is not admitting to killing dogs or gambling. So what is a guilty plea when you do not admit to being guitly? A Source told ESPN that Vick will only admit to funding these events completely. If it is proven otherwise that he did take part in the actual dog fighting, the plea bargain will not do anything for him. This could be the biggest fumbled of his career. He is clearly trying to play the system like placing a bet on a puppy. The easiest way out is to admit everything he has done and do the time.
As of right now Vick is looking to five years, but it seems he will go all in with only a pair of …?
NFL Record: Who Ran The Fastest 40 Yard Dash?
You won’t believe this. The fastest 40 yard dash recorded by the NFL was recorded in 1989. Remember this was before the great technology advances that gave us the electronic stop watch. You ready? Deion Sanders stopped a non-electronic clock at 4.29 seconds. Some have witnessed 1 year pro Texan’s wide out Jerome Mathis run the 40 in 4.26 seconds, but it was not officially documented.
Could Five Yards Destroy College Football?
By the way people are acting on the issue; you would think the kickoff tee has been moved into the bleachers. The NCAA rules committee approved a change this year in which the kickoff tee is moved back 5 yards to the kicking team’s 30-yard line. It’s only a 5-yard difference, but many feel that it will have a negative impact on the game.
Kicking the ball out of bounds on purpose?
“There may be some people that decide they want to kick it out of bounds and give it to the team at the 35-yard line rather than kicking it deep and having a return out to the 40 or 45.”
Too Many Kick Returns?
“He said we only really returned about 25 percent of the kicks. Now, we predict we’ll be returning 75 to 90 percent of the kicks. ” I highly doubt that 25 percent of all kicks were returned anyway…
Scoring Average Will Rise?
Some coaches say the score will rise to be above the average 20 percent higher with more pressure on the defense more than ever before.
More injuries?Â
Most injuries occur on running plays when the runner and the opposing players collide at a high rate of speed. Some say kickoffs include those factors more than the kickoff.
Most Importantly More FUMBLES!Â
Does the NCAA need more turnovers during a college football game?
Conclusion
Moving the tee back five yard will not destroy college football, but the sissyness of the players and coaches whinning to the press will!
